The Photographer of the Year competition was introduced in the 2005/2006 Club Year by our previous Chairman, Neal McClimon, and proved to be a huge success. The competition is now in its second year. Please ensure you read the rules carefully to avoid disqualification!

This years rounds
Round One: Larger than Life
Well the first round of the Photographer of the Year competition was a huge success. The theme was “Larger than Life (macro/close-up)” which saw lots of entries and some very excellent work on display!
James Janisse scored first place with his photo of two ladybirds. Very well done to you James! Close on James’ heals was Chris Pilling with his photo of a spider web. Kath Lyonette was in third place with her photo of a flower. And Al Borrelli took fourth and fifth place with his coloured pencils and fork abstract.

Round Two: Seven Deadly Sins
The second round of the Photographer of
the Year competition was a difficult one. The theme was
Seven Deadly Sins: pride (vanity), envy, gluttony, lust,
anger (wrath), greed and sloth. There were 16 entries
in total. Popular 'sins' entered were gluttony, pride
(vanity), envy and sloth.
The high scorers were all very close together!
Martin Rooney, one of our new members, came first
place with his black and white photo of a sloth asleep
in front of the television. Second place went to Natalie
Harrison for her sloth entry which showed an
elderly gentleman snoozing on a bench in the midday sun
and with an empty beer can nearby. Al Borrelli
scored third place with gluttony, a mouth filled with
french fries. Kath Lyonette was in fourth
place, another entry for sloth, and
James Janisse scored fifth place with an entry
for vanity. Well done to everyone who entered.

Round Three: Metal, Glass and Wood
The third round of the Photographer of the
Year competition was an interesting one. The theme was
Material : Metal, Glass and Wood There were 15 entries
in total. Lots of Metal shown.
Marcus Richardson, came first place with his
Stainless Steel Lock. Second place went to J Wang
for his image of shiney globes. Martin Rooney
scored third place with an image of a metal bridge. Marcus
Richardson scored again in fourth place, with
a photo of a wet table.
Martin Rooney grabbed fifth place with an image
of some nuts and bolts.

Round Four: The Human Body
We had the fourth round of the Photographer
of the Year competition on 20 March. The theme was the
human body. There was a good turn out, 17 entries in total,
with the subjects being either whole bodies, or parts
thereof, it made for very interesting viewing.
Al Borrelli came in first place with
his photo entitled ‘Lips’. The Second place
went to Marta Fracassetti for her image
of a woman. Al Borrelli also managed
to come in third with his image of wrinkled feet. Marcus
Richardson came in fourth place with a photo
of a torso and, finally, Martin Rooney
came in at fifth place with his image of a man.
