IMAGES Program

Raymond Rutting, the photographer for the Dutch newspaper De Volkskrant, will be joining us this evening to talk about his work as a photojournalist. Raymond has been named the Fotojournalist van het Jaar in both 1997 and 2004, and he is known to be an excellent photographer and speaker.  You can find out more about him and view some of his work on his website.

POTY Urban: This month's theme is to try and get you out in the city with your camera. Think of graffiti, building, decay, renewal, people in the city, animals in the city, who lives in the city and how does it affect them. Think of using creative techniques like b&W, panning, different lenses to show a different view on the city.

This evening will be quite different then all the others. Bring your scissors, glue and DIY creativity!  Tonight we'll make photography equipment for free. Always wanted a reflection screen, grit or snoot for your flash, a beanbag or maybe even a romantic heart-shaped bokeh? This is your chance! All materials will be provided by the club.

POTY Contrast: This theme leaves things wide open!   Could it be the contrast between light and dark, colours, thematic contrast (big versus small, alive versus dead)? Think creatively about your composition and what you are trying to show as the contrast. You could alternatively just play with the contrast in Photoshop..but that would be too easy !

Tis the season...to eat lots of good food in the company of enjoyable people. All members are warmly invited to attend this year's Christmas Dinner.  For full details please check the relevant post on the forum.

The December meeting will be a special surprise this year !!! First of all Bruce will be presenting and providing information on the 2010 Club Exhibition that will be held in April in the Den Haag Central Library. All questions you may have about exhibiting, sizes, formats, selecting your best images will be answered by Bruce. Our Photographer of the Year round is on the subject of Black and White Weather..so maybe this weekend would be a good idea with the current weather we're having to get out with your camera..and some waterproof protection !!!

In the second section of the club meeting we'll be having some fun...and you all will be the stars...and for your participation you will receive a special Christmas surprise to take home with you (and as a hint this surprise will become extremely useful in the middle of next year).

POTY Black and White Weather: This theme is more precise and therefore means you have to use your creativity more.
Think of the the different kinds of weather and how these could be effectively shot and displayed in B&W. Think not just of clouds and sky, but think of rain, sun and snow ! Don't forget use the Dutch weather - we have a lot of it !!

Ring in the New Year with your fellow photography club members by joining us for the New Year's Borrel.  Details, including location and time, will be provided on the forum towards the end of 2009, so keep your eyes open for that important post!

POTY The Dark Side: The Dark Side is in complete contrast to the previous months theme in that you can now let your ideas run wild!
How can you show the darker side of life? In a formal portrait? In a journalistic type shot? Think of questions like what is darker emotion? What is dark? How can I take something everyday and make it darker?
Let your imagination run wild !

POTY People at Work: This months title says it all. How can you show people at work? Think of composition? What other things than the person show's the job they do in your picture? Think of location? Do you want a posed shot or a journalistic type street scene? Think not just of the person you are shooting but the objects/environment around them. 

 Are you needing some inspiration when it comes to creativity with your images?  Then this night is for you!  Our guest speaker, Karin Krijgsman, will be talking about creativity,  from where to get inspiration to how to set up a project.  The evening will be a great introduction on how to change from a snap shooter into a photographer with a goal.

POTY The Four Elements: What are the four elements? In this theme we want you to show all, one, two or three of Fire, Water, Earth and Air, the choice is yours!
Can you show them all in one shot ? Or can you creatively use one of them in an effective way ?

Eric Bergmeester will be on hand to introduce us into the hard life of a nature photographer. He will speak about what is needed to become a successful nature photographer, including the gear required but mainly (and perhaps more importantly!) about the mentality, preparation and knowledge a nature photographer has to have and do. 

POTY Close to Home: The aim of this theme is for you to find something within 25 metres of your home that you can shoot creatively and that shows that it is close to home? It could be an object, a person, a child or a streetscene, a house number? Think different and shoot different !

POTY Hidden Holland: This theme aims for you to get out there with your camera and shoot the Hidden Holland (or Netherlands..doesn't just have to be North or South Holland) and bring back a shot that shows the real Netherlands that you don't often see ! So no Tulips, Clogs or Windmills...unless they're hidden !!

Finally, it's the day...the day you've waited all year long for that...Thhaaaaaaaaatttttt's the BBQ!  The program of this event is totally confidential, we can only share with you that the big winner of the POTY will be revealed during this special event!  We will give you some further details like the place and time closer to the day, but you can expect a huge fiesta...!  We are sure that you will enjoy it even if it means that our nice, friendly, interesting Images' year 2009/2010 is finished...
